BOCA RATON, Fla. — The Villanova softball team is set for a five-game weekend at the Joan Joyce Classic hosted by FAU Feb. 20-22.
The 'Cats (0-10) enter the weekend coming off of their highest offensive output of the season after scoring eight runs in a 9-8 loss to MIchigan State Feb. 14.
Lilly St. Jean found her power in Charlotte, N.C. last weekend, hitting her first two home runs of the season. St. Jean leads Villanova in OPS (.935), home runs (2), RBIs (6) and total bases (11).
Maddie Burrows has been the 'Cats best on-base threat through 10 games, getting on at a .452 clip while being tied for first on the team in walks with four.
Madison Ostrowski's eight hits and .333 batting average both lead VU heading into the weekend.
The Joan Joyce Classic, named after the late legendary Owls head coach, is the second consecutive American-hosted tournament Villanova takes part in. After last weekend's loss to Charlotte, the 'Cats are 12-27 all-time against American opponents, but 3-3 against FAU.
Villanova starts the weekend against UMass (4-6) Friday at 9 a.m., taking on the Minutewomen for the first time since March 9, 2019, a game the 'Cats won 4-1.
VU rounds out the day with a matchup against Big 12 Conference foe Kansas (7-4). The Jayhawks will be the first Big 12 opponent the 'Cats have played since Feb. 8, 2025 when VU took on Baylor and lost 8-2.
A matchup at 11:15 a.m. versus Kansas opens Saturday for the 'Cats before they face the hosting Owls at 3:45 p.m. to close the day.
Villanova closes its weekend in Boca Raton Sunday at 9 a.m. versus Southern Indiana (1-6).
