NEW YORK—Four members of the Villanova middle distance group were in action at The Armory on Friday afternoon to compete in the men's Mile at the Armory College Last Chance meet. Senior
Logan Wetzel (Saline, Mich.) and junior
Nick Steele (Harvard, Mass.) recorded times of 4:01.23 and 4:04.69, respectively, in a race paced by teammates
Charlie O'Donovan (Cork, Ireland) and
Miller Anderson (West Hartford, Conn.).
The race marked the second time in a span of a week that Wetzel ran the Mile in under 4:02. Last week in Boston he recorded a time of 4:00.05 in the same race where O'Donovan became the 42
nd member of the Wildcats celebrated "sub-four" club with a lifetime best mark of 3:58.95. Steele also notched his second-fastest time of the year on Friday after posting a time of 4:00.71 earlier in the season at the Villanova Invitational.
Anderson ran three laps and took the field of nine runners in the fastest heat of the Mile through 400 meters in 1:00.36. His second lap around the track, of 29.51, was the fastest split of the opening quarter-mile. O'Donovan paced the race for 1200 meters, including a split of 2:00.08 through the first 800 meters. After he stepped aside with two laps to go, it was all Wetzel and Steele from that point on. Wetzel pulled in front of Steele with 300 meters to go in the race and ran a 29.59 final lap in pursuit of what would have been his first career sub-four minute mark.
One meet remains on the Wildcats regular season schedule, as members of the men's throwing group will be in action on Sunday morning in the Princeton Invitational.
