PRINCETON, N.J.—Graduate student
Carolina Alcorta (Springfield, Va.) led a quartet of Villanova runners in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:19.85 at the Larry Ellis Invitational on Saturday afternoon. There were a total of 15 athletes competing for the Wildcats during the meet.
Alcorta came in sixth out of 57 competitors in the elite section of the 1500 meters. She was followed by freshman
Lydia Olivere (Wilmington, Del.) who recorded a personal best time of 4:29.01, while freshman
Reilly Siebert (Syosset, N.Y.) crossed the finish line in 4:33.48 and senior
Bella Burda (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) recorded a time of 4:43.41. Junior sprinter
Amari Onque-Shabazz (Plainfield, N.J.) ran in the elite section of the 800 meters at the meet and recorded a time of 2:11.42.
Villanova also posted strong results in the 100 meter hurdles and the 200 meters. Sophomore
Sarah Jones (Sewell, N.J.) was the runner-up in the final of the hurdles with a season-best time of 13.84. She had also been second overall out of 19 competitors in the preliminary heats when she posted a time of 14.06. Sophomore
Trudy-Ann Williamson (Kingston, Jamaica) came in third in the 200 meters in 24.83, while Jones recorded a time of 25.88 in the second event of the day.
Among the other running events on the Wildcats schedule, freshman
Trinity Hart (Scotch Plains, N.J.) registered a time of 12.62 in the 100 meters and junior
Adrianna Letros (York, Ont.) ran the 400 meter hurdles in 1:07.82.
Senior thrower
Alex Zimmerman (Lititz, Pa.) highlighted the Villanova results in the field events. She threw for a personal best distance of 38.54 meters in the hammer, marking the second time this outdoor season that she has increased her top mark in the event. Zimmerman also notched a season-best throw of 40.22 meters in the discus.
In the javelin, sophomore
Taryn Ashby (Pittston, Pa.) was second with a throw of 45.15 meters and freshman
Emily Galvin (Pitman, N.J.) recorded a throw of 28.98 meters.
Junior jumper
Gloria Donou (East Brunswick, N.J.) tallied marks of 5.45 meters in the long jump and 11.64 meters in the triple jump at the meet. She was third in the long jump and sixth in the triple jump. Senior
Alex Patrick (Media, Pa.) measured a distance of 5.20 meters in the long jump and was followed by Hart with a mark of 5.03 meters, while sophomore
Katie Ciccarone (Freehold, N.J.) recorded a triple jump of 10.94 meters.
