EWING, N.J. - A group of 11 athletes competed in nine different events at the Lions Invitational on Saturday afternoon. There was no team scoring in the meet at the TCNJ Track & Field Complex. Among the athletes in action for Villanova were three multi-event athletes who were continuing preparations for the heptathlon at the BIG EAST Championships next month. Freshmen Sofia Calabrese (Edwards, Colo.) and Niki Cleary (Flemington, N.J.) each registered personal best times in the 100 meter hurdles.

Calabrese, Cleary and sophomore Marley Byrne (Auburn, Maine) each ran in the 100 meter hurdles. Calabrese had the best time of the three with a personal best mark of 17.42, while Cleary also established a new top mark with a time of 17.59. Byrne recorded a season best time of 18.00 to round out the Wildcats results in the event. Cleary also competed in the 200 meters and tallied a time of 26.96, while Calabrese notched a seventh place finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.59 meters. Byrne and Cleary also competed in the long jump, where they measured distances of 5.01 meters and 4.92 meters, respectively.

Freshman Alex Patrick (Media, Pa.) competed in both the long jump and the triple jump. She tied for ninth place out of 48 athletes in the long jump with a distance of 5.13 meters in addition to recording a mark of 10.53 meters in the triple jump. Sophomore Courtney Caldwell (Trenton, N.J.) came in third in the triple jump with a measurement of 11.29 meters, while Patrick was 10th.

The other field events on the Villanova schedule at the meet were the pole vault and the discus. Freshman Adeline Scelzi (Glen Allen, Va.) and junior Alexandra Elder (Moorestown, N.J.) each tied for eighth place with a height of 3.35 meters, while senior Abigail Nolte (Branchburg, N.J.) was tied for 16th place with a mark of 3.20 meters. Freshman thrower Alex Zimmerman (Lititz, Pa.) came in ninth in the discus with a throw of 38.56 meters.

Senior Alyssa Lombardo (Bethlehem, Pa.) and freshman Temi Odukale (Sewaren, N.J.) ran in the 400 meters and the 400 meter hurdles, respectively. Lombardo came in 18th in the 400 meters with a time of 1:02.05 and Odukale was 17th in the 400 meters hurdles in 1:10.02.
