5000 Meters
Katie Fisher and Alexandra Russo both established new personal best times ââ'¬Â¦ Fisher's time of 16:54.60 was nearly 14 full seconds faster than the mark of 17:08.48 she recorded at the Penn State National earlier this season ââ'¬Â¦ Russo's time of 17:22.39 beat her mark of 17:28.87 which was also set at the Penn State meet last month.
Distance Medley Relay
There were several dramatic changes of momentum during the race ââ'¬Â¦ Georgetown leadoff runner Samantha Nadel took a big lead during the final lap of the 1200 meter opening leg and passed off to Sabrina Southerland, who quickly put a wide gap between herself and the rest of the field going into the second handoff ââ'¬Â¦ Angel Piccirillo took the baton for Villanova for the third leg of the relay and ran hard for the entire 800 meters to steadily make up ground on the Hoyas lead ââ'¬Â¦ Sammy Bockoven, running in her first BIG EAST meet, took the baton for the anchor leg and, after just one lap, had put the Wildcats in front ââ'¬Â¦ Bockoven held the lead until the start of the bell lap, when Georgetown anchor Katrina Coogan moved back in front and reversed momentum for good.
Pole Vault
Catherine Walker moved into sole possession of fifth place in the Wildcats indoor pole vault performance list with her height of 3.81 meters ââ'¬Â¦ This is the third straight year that Villanova has had at least two athletes earn All-BIG EAST honors (top three finish) in the pole vault at the indoor BIG EAST meet ââ'¬Â¦ The Wildcats have tallied top-three finishes in the pole vault a total of 11 times at the indoor meet.
Long Jump
Anne Yahiro recorded the top indoor mark of her career with a distance of 5.42 meters ââ'¬Â¦ That is tied for ninth place on the all-time Villanova performance list in the long jump ââ'¬Â¦ Yahiro is already tied for seventh on the Wildcats combined all-time performance list between the indoor and outdoor seasons ââ'¬Â¦ Her overall PR in the event is 5.52 meters and was set at the outdoor BIG EAST Championships in 2014 ââ'¬Â¦ Lewis came in seventh with a mark of 5.28 meters ââ'¬Â¦ This is the first time in her career that she has scored indoors at the BIG EAST Championships ââ'¬Â¦ She previously finished eighth in the long jump outdoors in 2014.
Pentathlon
Katie HoSang has completed four pentathlons during her collegiate career, including two last season as a freshman and two this season ââ'¬Â¦ In addition to leading the field of competitors with a time of 9.09 in the 60 meter hurdles (a PR which she later broke in the preliminary heats of the 60mH when she ran 9.07), HoSang also tallied a personal best mark of 9.04 meters in the shot put ââ'¬Â¦ Niki Cleary had a personal best time of 10.23 in the 60 meter hurdles, as did Marley Byrne with a time of 10.85 ââ'¬Â¦ Byrne finished in 12th place overall.
60 Meters
Shanice Grant came in second in her heat with a time of 7.61 ââ'¬Â¦ That time is the fifth-fastest in school history and also puts Grant into third place on the Wildcats all-time performance list ââ'¬Â¦ Her previous personal best in the 60 meters was 7.78 ââ'¬Â¦ She was running the event for the first time in a Villanova uniform, with her previous PR being set on February 9, 2013 while she was competing for LIU-Brooklyn at the Northeast Conference Championships.
60 Meter Hurdles
Shanice Grant won her heat of the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.80 ââ'¬Â¦ She was in the lead soon after the starting gun went off and then went on to an easy victory in the heat ââ'¬Â¦ Her time was second overall during the preliminary round ââ'¬Â¦ Katie HoSang came in third in her heat with a personal best time of 9.07 ââ'¬Â¦ She started the day with a PR of 9.25 which she set at the Villanova Open on January 8 ââ'¬Â¦ Before the preliminary heats of the 60 meter hurdles, HoSang had lowered her PR to 9.09 when she registered that time in the first event of the pentathlon.
400 Meters
Sidney Hayes posted a season-best time of 56.00 to move on to Saturday's final ââ'¬Â¦ Arielle Massillon and Alyssa Lombardo each recorded new personal best times but did not advance ââ'¬Â¦ Massillon registered a time of 57.46 to eclipse her previous mark of 58.26 set at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on February 13, 2015 ââ'¬Â¦ Lombardo posted a time of 58.41 to lower her previous top time of 59.00 which came at the Gotham Cup earlier in the year (January 22).
500 Meters
All four of the Villanova entries in the 500 meters advanced through to the final ââ'¬Â¦ Veronica Scott and Sarah Knowles were the top two finishers in the third of three preliminary heats ââ'¬Â¦ Scott won that heat with a time of 1:15.28 and Knowles came in second in 1:15.58 ââ'¬Â¦ The latter time was a new personal best for Knowles, who previously ran 1:17.17 on January 16 at the Great Dane Classic ââ'¬Â¦ Erin Jaskot ran the event for the first time as a collegiate runner and finished fourth in her heat (1:15.47) ââ'¬Â¦ Yazmin Wilson-Jones posted a personal best time of 1:15.94 to eclipse her mark of 1:17.03 which was established at last year's Penn State National (January 31, 2015).
800 Meters
Villanova indoor 800 meters record holder Siofra Cleirigh Buttner had the fastest overall time in the preliminary heats ââ'¬Â¦ She finished in 2:09.60 and held off Piper Donaghu from Georgetown by just 0.12 seconds at the finish line ââ'¬Â¦ Rebecca Del Rossi and Nicole Armstrong each placed fourth in their heats to advance to the final ââ'¬Â¦ Del Rossi had a huge PR with a mark of 2:11.62, beating her previous time of 2:13.73 set on February 13, 2015 by more than two seconds ââ'¬Â¦ Armstrong tallied an indoor collegiate PR with a time of 2:13.95 ââ'¬Â¦ She beat her mark of 2:14.00 which had been posted just two weeks earlier at the FastTrack National Invite ââ'¬Â¦ Her overall top time of 2:10.11 was established during her scholastic career.
