  • Villanova tallied a win on Homecoming Weekend for the third straight year and is now 34-18 (.654) all-time in its Homecoming games. Last season the Wildcats tallied a 21-20 victory over Richmond and in 2014 the Homecoming game was a 48-28 win over Morgan State.
  • Saturday's matchup marked the second straight week and the 87th game all-time in which Villanova played in a game featuring two nationally-ranked teams. The visiting Great Danes entered the contest with a No. 23 ranking, and the Wildcats were ranked No. 16. Villanova is 47-40 (.540) all-time in games where both teams are ranked and has won 24 of the last 37 such games since the start of the 2008 season. Head coach Andy Talley is 58-68 (.460) versus ranked opponents during his career, including 37-25 (.597) at home.
  • Villanova led today's game 14-0 at halftime. It was the third time in the last four weeks that the Wildcats did not allow a point in the opening half. With the 24-13 win, Villanova is now allowing just 15.9 points per game on the season.
  • Led by a career high 3.5 sacks from junior linebacker Ed Shockley, the Wildcats finished the game with a season-high nine total quarterback sacks. This is the most sacks in a game by any FCS team this season. Previously, Prairie View had eight sacks against Alabama A&M on September 17 and Saint Francis (Pa.) had eight sacks against Robert Morris on October 8. Villanova had not totaled more than seven sacks in a game since at least 2002. Since then, the Wildcats had registered seven sacks on two occasions: at Rhode Island on October 18, 2008 and at Maine on September 29, 2012.
  • Albany finished the game with just 161 total yards of offense on 53 plays. This is the third time this season ââ'¬" all in the last four weeks ââ'¬" that Villanova has held an opponent to fewer than 200 yards in a game. Through eight games in 2016, the Wildcats are allowing their opposition just 259.8 yards of total offense per contest. The last season in which Villanova allowed fewer than 200 total yards in three different games was in 2004.
  • Senior linebacker Austin Calitro was credited with half a sack in the game. He has now been credited for at least a partial sack in three consecutive games. Calitro finished the game with six total tackles.
  • Senior defensive end Tanoh Kpassagnon had five tackles, including two tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks in today's game. Kpassagnon now has 30 total tackles on the season, including 15 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks. He has registered career highs for a single season in both tackles for loss and sacks. Kpassagnon entered the game versus Albany leading CAA Football in tackles for loss and was ranked second in sacks.
  • Villanova's second scoring drive of the game was a 93-yard drive on 12 plays which culminated with junior running back Matt Gudzak scoring on a two-yard scamper. This was the longest scoring drive of the season for the Wildcats and their third scoring drive of 90 yards or longer. The possession equaled Villanova's longest scoring drive since another 93-yard drive in the fourth quarter against Penn last season on September 24, 2015.
  • Sophomore running back Aaron Forbes registered his second career 100-yard rushing game with today's contest, and also tied a season and career high with two touchdowns scored. Forbes ran for a career-high 151 yards on 24 carries in the game. His previous 100-yard game was a 111-yard effort at Lafayette on September 24, while his previous game with two touchdowns came against Elon on October 1. His performance was the 42nd game in school history in which a player rushed for at least 150 yards. Of the 42 games, 15 have come in the last 10 years and two have come this season. Earlier in the year, senior running back Javon White ran for 155 yards against Lehigh on September 10.
  • Sophomore kicker Gerard Smith made a 32-yard field goal with 1:38 remaining in the third quarter. It was his second made field goal of the season on just three attempts. Smith is now 5-of-10 on field goal attempts in his career and is also 42-of-46 on point-after attempts.
