Recap | Box Score | Quotes | Photo Gallery

  • Villanova won its fourth straight game with a 42-7 win over Elon in the first-ever meeting between the two teams. During the four-game winning streak, the Wildcats have outscored the opposition by a total count of 139-63 while averaging a margin of victory of 19.0 points. Villanova has won each of the last three games by 17 or more points.
  • The offensive production by the Wildcats included a school-record 35 first downs. That broke the old school mark of 34 first downs which had been set against Delaware on November 23, 2013. Along the way to setting a new record, Villanova had 21 rushing first downs, 11 passing first downs and three more on penalties.
  • With the victory, the Wildcats are now 27-3 (.900) since the start of the 2011 season when they score at least 30 points in a game. Villanova has surpassed 30 points in each of its last three contests and had a season-high 42 points in the win over Elon.
  • Villanova had 557 yards of total offense versus Elon, even when accounting for 20 lost yards incurred when the Wildcats took a knee on the final play of the first half and the final three plays of the game. The total of 557 yards is the most since Villanova had 584 yards in a 48-31 win against Albany on November 15, 2014. That game was also the last time that the Wildcats scored over 40 points in a game. Villanova has surpassed 500 yards of total offense 24 times in the last 14 seasons (161 games).
  • The 557 yards of total offense for the Wildcats included 283 rushing yards and 274 passing yards. It was the first time Villanova had at least that many yards both rushing and passing in the same game since November 23, 2013 against Delaware (291 passing yards, 335 rushing yards).
  • In addition to their offensive outburst against Elon, the Wildcats also put up stellar team defense numbers in the win. Villanova limited the Phoenix to just 130 yards of total offense and only gave up six first downs. Those were both the lowest totals for an opponent since Rhode Island had 88 yards of offense and four first downs in a 45-0 win by the Wildcats on November 9, 2013.
  • Elon had just eight passing completions for 33 yards in the game. It was the fewest pass completions allowed by the Villanova defense since Stony Brook completed only three passes in a first round FCS playoff game on November 24, 2012. The 33 passing yards by the Phoenix were the fewest given up by the Wildcats since James Madison had 11 passing yards on September 18, 2004.
  • Sophomore quarterback Zach Bednarczyk had a career 270 passing yards and a career high 329 yards of total offense in the win. He also tied his season and career high with three touchdown passes. Bednarczyk's previous career bests were 245 passing yards at Towson (October 24, 2015) and 289 yards of total offense at James Madison (November 21, 2015).
  • Zach Bednarczyk also surpassed 2,000 career passing yards during the game. He has seen action as the quarterback in 14 career games (13 starts) and is 191-of-327 (58.4%) through the air for 2,206 yards with 16 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He ranks 18th in school history in career passing yards and 15th in career yards of total offense (2,933). Bednarczyk is 8-5 in his career as Villanova's starting quarterback.
  • Sophomore running back Aaron Forbes ran for 58 yards and two touchdowns in the win. It was his first career game with two touchdowns after recording one score on four previous occasions, including three times this season. Forbes has run for 300 yards and four scores in five games this season.
  • Zach Bednarczyk and sophomore wide receiver Alex Padovani connected on a 75-yard pass play for a touchdown in the second quarter. Both the pass for Bednarczyk and the reception for Padovani were career bests, and it was the longest pass play for the Wildcats since a school-record 87-yard pass thrown by John Robertson to Kevin Gulyas against Liberty on December 6, 2014.
  • Alex Padovani and freshman wide receiver Zac Kerxton each scored the first touchdowns of their careers against Elon. Five different players scored touchdowns in the victory, eight different players carried the ball and seven different receivers caught at least one pass. Seven of the eight ball carriers for Villanova had at least one rush of 10 yards or longer.
  • Senior defensive lineman Tanoh Kpassagnon had 2.5 tackles for loss and a sack against Elon. He has now registered at least one sack in four consecutive games, and he has 11.0 tackles for loss and 5.0 sacks among his 19 total stops on the season. The 11.0 tackles for loss are Kpassagnon's career high for a single season, with more than half the 2016 campaign still to play. The last Villanova player to have at least one full sack in four straight games was Rakim Cox in 2012.
  • Junior kicker Steve Weyler tied a career high with seven kickoffs. He set new personal bests with 463 yards and an average kick of 66.1 yards. Sophomore kicker Gerard Smith also set new career highs for both makes and attempts with his 6-of-6 performance on point-after tries.
  • Senior punter John Hinchen delivered a 51-yard punt which was fielded at the 10-yard line on his only attempt of the game. Hinchen has placed 10 of his 24 punts this season inside the opponent's 20-yard line and has recorded five punts of 50 yards or longer.
