MIAMI -- Three members of the Villanova track & field qualified provisionally for the NCAA Outdoor Championships at the Miami Gatorade Invitational. The Gatorade Invitational was held at the Greentree Track in Miami, Fla.
Kareem Archer (Jr., Plainfield, N.J.), Krestena Sullivan (Sr., Kitchener, Ontario) and Jurga Marcinkevicuite (So., Valnius, Lithuania) all qualified provisionally for the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Archer finished second in the 400m in 50.63, while Sullivan and Marcinkevicuite place second and third in the 800m in 2:07.64 and 2:08.17 respectively.
Four members of the women's team also turned in individual ECAC qualifying marks for the Wildcats. Kesha Walley (Sr., Yardon, Pa.) and Leashia Rahr (Fr., Syracuse, N.Y.) both qualified in the 400m. Walley ran 55.06 to win the event, while Rahr was fifth in 56.72. Melanie Sklepko (Sr., Youngstown, Ohio) finished second in the 400m IH in 1:00.47 and Tamieka Grizzle (Fr., Bronx, N.Y.) won the 1500m in 4:27.70.
The Wildcats 4x400m relay team of Walley, Grizzle, Sklepko and Rahr won the event in an ECAC qualifying time of 3:44.04.
For the Villanova men Steven Miller (Sr., Shelton, Conn.) and Gregory Young (Fr., Wilmington, Mass.) both turned in top-five finishes. Miller was second in the javelin with a throw of 169-5, while Young was fourth in the 800m in 1:55.36.
The Wildcats will be back in action on April 12, as they host the Villanova Invitational. The meet is scheduled to start with the field events at 11:00 a.m. and the running events to follow at 11:30 a.m.
