Baseball Falls To Lipscomb In Nashville

Bison Best 'Cats 9-8 On Saturday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Villanova University baseball team dropped a hard-fought 9-8 decision to Lipscomb University on Saturday afternoon in the second game of the series at Ken Dugan Field.

'CATS RESPOND
Villanova fell behind early as the Bison plated two runs in the first inning on a sacrifice fly and a throwing error.

The Wildcats answered in the middle innings. After pushing across their first run on a Lipscomb miscue, redshirt sophomore Mark Gialluisi delivered a single to right field to score Collin Quintano and even the game.

From there, the Villanova defense settled in, holding the Bison scoreless over the next four innings to keep the contest within reach.

LATE-INNING FIREWORKS
As they have throughout the early season, the Wildcats found their spark late. Villanova erupted for six runs in the sixth inning to take its largest lead of the day.

Gialluisi jumpstarted the rally with his second RBI of the afternoon, giving the 'Cats their first lead. Austin Lemon followed with a two-run double, continuing his hot stretch at the plate. One batter later, Brayden Leonard roped a double to left to drive in two more runs. Graduate transfer Carter Richey capped the inning with an RBI single.

The six-run surge gave Villanova an 8-2 advantage.

BISON ANSWER
Lipscomb responded immediately. The Bison scored five runs in the bottom half of the sixth, including three with two outs. A two-run double from Carter and an RBI single by Ludeiro trimmed the Wildcats' lead to one heading into the seventh.

Lipscomb tied the game in the seventh with a single to center field, then carried that momentum into the eighth, where a sacrifice fly brought home what proved to be the game-winning run.
