Men's Tennis Set For Busy Weekend At Navy And George Mason

'Cats Face Midshipmen And Patriots

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Villanova University men's tennis team returns to the road this weekend for a pair of nonconference matchups, beginning with Navy on Saturday, February 14, followed by George Mason on Sunday, February 15.

The Wildcats enter the weekend with momentum after earning back-to-back victories over Howard and Wagner. Villanova topped the Bison, 5-2, before securing a hard-fought 4-3 win against Wagner.

Against Howard, the 'Cats claimed the doubles point and carried that energy into singles play. Cooper Gordon and Ethan Carr battled to three-set victories, while Kush Anand and Cameron Kruep delivered straight-set wins to seal the team triumph.

Versus Wagner, Villanova dropped the doubles point but showed resilience in singles action. The Wildcats won four of six singles matches to complete the comeback, highlighted by a three-set thriller from Thomas Wakefield that helped push VU over the top.

Navy enters Saturday's match with a 7-5 overall record and a strong 5-2 mark at home. The Midshipmen opened the season with wins over St. Bonaventure and Saint Francis before dropping consecutive matches at Penn. Navy's additional victories have come against Niagara, Binghamton, Longwood, Hofstra, and most recently Mount St. Mary's. The Midshipmen are coming off a 7-0 loss to Monmouth.

George Mason has competed in four matches this season and holds a 3-1 record. The Patriots have defeated Hofstra, Navy, and the University of Mary Washington, with their lone loss coming against Rider in the season opener.

Villanova opens the weekend at noon on Saturday against Navy before wrapping up play at noon on Sunday against George Mason.
