After a win in its BIG EAST opener Saturday over Seton Hall, Villanova looks to keep the momentum going as it hosts Creighton Wednesday. First kick is set for 4 p.m. from Higgins Soccer Complex.
Villanova (6-3, 1-1 BIG EAST) is in the midst of a four-match winning streak when playing on its home field. Since the season-opening loss to Michigan, Villanova has not allowed a goal at home in 363:13 minutes of action, outscoring its opponents 8-0 since then. Overall, the Wildcats have only dropped one of its last seven games with the lone falter being a 1-0 loss at Princeton on September 11.
The 1-0 win over Seton Hall brought along four weekly awards for the ‘Cats this week. Hannah Dickinson, Tea Gambardella and Meredith Palmer were all honored by the BIG EAST as Goalkeeper, Freshman and Defensive Player of the Week while Gabby Koluch landed on TopDrawerSoccer’s Team of the Week as an Honorable Mention.
Creighton (3-5-1, 0-1 BIG EAST) fell in its BIG EAST opener to No. 20 Georgetown, 3-1. When playing on the road this season, the Bluejays are 1-3. The lone road win was a 2-1 result at Kansas City on Aug. 17.
Despite trailing its opponents in scoring 14-17, Creighton has been fairly accurate in its shooting with a shot accuracy clip of .495 that is second in the BIG EAST and good enough for 77th nationally. The Bluejays have landed 50 of their 101 shot attempts on frame with Ariana Mondiri leading the team with three goals, two assists, eight points, 23 shots and 11 on goal.
