The third Premier Lacrosse League player to ever win Midfielder of the Year is a Villanova Wildcat as
Matt Campbell '23 received the honor on Friday night at the 2025 PLL Lexus End of Year Awards.
Villanova's all-time leading scorer becomes the first Boston Cannon to ever win the award after a dominant third season in the professional ranks. Campbell scored a goal in every game this season, including multi-point outings in all but one of his 10 starts.
The three-time All-Star accounted for a league-high 28 points out of the midfield this season, totaling a team-best 18 total goals with a pair of two-pointers and eight assists on his ledger.
The Delbarton product has ascended each year as a pro, going from All-Star in his rookie season to First Team All-Pro in 2024 to this season's Gait Brothers Midfielder of the Year in just three seasons in the league.
Earlier this week, Campbell and fellow VU alum
Connor Kirst '20 were named to the U.S. Men's Sixes National Team training camp roster. Both Wildcats (and now teammates on the Boston Cannons) will compete in the three-day training camp before the World Lacrosse Super Sixes in Ontario from Oct. 10-12.
