VILLANOVA, Pa - Villanova women's lacrosse takes down Marquette 15-8 on Sunday afternoon. They are now 9-4 and 3-1 BIG EAST.
The Wildcats had 21 draw controls with 13 going to
Emma Verhoest.
Maddy Stoddard and
Katie Clark tallied four caused turnovers.
Elena Torres led the team with four points and two assists and
Sami Carey had three goals and three assists. In goal,
Cate Gallagher had six saves.
Rose Christie had two goals and an assist, while also having five ground balls and two caused turnovers.
In the first quarter, the Golden Eagles were the first to score, but the 'Cats then went on a nine goal run started by Christie with 5:25 left on the clock. Carey helps Christie net another ball. Torres then earned a free position and finds the back of the net. With less than a minute left,
Leslie Iorio nets a ball with the help of Christie, putting the Wildcats up 4-1 going into the second.

Jillian Vaught finds Carey to help her grab her first goal of the game.
Sophia Corretjer nets back to back goals to extend the lead 8-1.Â
Madison Freeman scores the last goal for the Wildcats of the half at 6:26. The Golden Eagles find the net one last time before the time runs out, making the score 9-2 at half.
Torres started the second half with her third goal of the game, she then helped Carey grab her second. Pappas followed suit with her first of the game. With 10:45 on the clock, Torres scores again, putting the 'Cats up 13-3.Â
Jillian Vaught passes to Carey to help her grab a hat trick. Marquette scores three more goals in a row before the end of the quarter.
Pappas finds the back of the net for the last time with 14:41 left to play putting the Wildcats up 15-7. The Golden Eagles score once again with 11 minutes to play and the clock will run out, with a final score of 15-8.
The Wildcats hit the road to Xavier next Saturday.
