Alex Payne Increases Season Best Mark in Hammer at Covert Classic

Senior thrower ranks second on this season’s BIG EAST performance list

BETHLEHEM, Pa.—Senior thrower Alex Payne (Silverdale, Wash.) competed in the hammer at the Carol and John Covert Classic on Friday afternoon and increased her season best distance to 53.10 meters. She had the best performance in the BIG EAST for the weekend and continues to rank second on the conference performance list for the 2025 season.
 
Payne tallied the mark of 53.10 meters on her fifth of six throws in Friday's competition. It was one centimeter further than she threw on her third attempt during the trial round. Payne has increased her season best mark in three of her last four outings, with Friday's mark her second longest throw at Villanova behind a distance of 53.56 meters last season.
 
Villanova continues the outdoor campaign at the Larry Ellis Invitational hosted by Princeton this Friday and Saturday.
