BETHLEHEM, Pa.—The second and final day of competition at the Carol and John Covert Classic was a successful one for Villanova on Saturday as the duo of freshman thrower
Chris Coulter (Philadelphia, Pa.) and sophomore
Jonathan Evans (Springfield, Va.) tallied personal best marks in the shot put and the discus, respectively.
Coulter moved into fifth place on this year's BIG EAST performance list with a throw of 14.66 meters. He increased his best mark of the season by 19 centimeters and did so on his fourth attempt of the day. Coulter started out the competition with a throw of 14.20 meters during the trials, then surpassed his previous PR of 14.47 meters on two of his three attempts in the final round. Junior
Liam Anderson (Lebanon, N.J.), who already ranks sixth in the BIG EAST this season, threw 14.25 meters in Saturday's competition.
Evans topped 40 meters in the discus for the first time in his career and finished with a mark of 40.96 meters on the day. That moved him to ninth on this year's BIG EAST performance list after his third attempt of the day. Evans fouled on his first throw Saturday before coming back to record marks of 40.82 meters and 40.96 meters on his next two attempts.
Villanova continues the outdoor season at the Larry Ellis Invitational hosted by Princeton this Friday and Saturday.
