WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.—Fifth year collegian Lizzie Martell (Essex Junction, Vt.) lowered her season best time in the 800 meters to 2:06.40 in a strong performance at the Wake Forest Invitational on Friday night. She began the day in fourth place on the BIG EAST performance list and maintained her standing while rising into the top 50 of the 800 meters in the East Region this season.
 
It was just the third race of the season and second in the 800 meters for Martell, a graduate transfer to the Wildcats from New Hampshire who is previously a two-time qualifier for the NCAA East Preliminary meet in the 800 meters. The top 48 declared athletes in each individual event qualify for that meet, which this year will be held May 28-31 in Jacksonville, Fla.
