WASHINGTON, D.C. – Villanova softball captured its second straight conference series and eighth straight series victory over Georgetown on Saturday with a 12-3 run rule victory in six innings at the Washington Nationals Youth Academy.
Contributions came up and down the lineup for Villanova (14-14, 6-2 BIG EAST), who totaled 12 hits and blasted a season-high five home runs with a multi-dinger day coming from Ava Franz (two home runs, three runs, four RBI).
Brooklyn Ostrowski reached three times, scored twice and added a homer in addition to a season-high 11 putouts at first base while Grace Reed and Jaclyn Morra each added two hits including a double as part of VU's season-best five two-baggers.
Kelsey White earned the win with five scoreless innings pitched, surrendering just three hits and striking out four while accounting for a dinger and two RBI in her plate appearances. Maranda Runco threw the final inning in the circle for the 'Cats in addition to scoring twice and hitting a homer as a member of the lineup.
The Wildcats started the game's scoring right away, taking advantage of a hit by pitch, error and base on balls before a White walk plated the first and a Reed single made it 2-0 after one.
Inning three began hot for the 'Cats as Franz belted a homer to lead it off before Ostrowski, Maddie Burrows and Reed all doubled to score another pair and go up 5-0.
With White mowing down the Hoyas on the other side, it wouldn't take long to extend that advantage as Villanova sent two long balls out of the yard in the fourth, getting bombs from Runco and Ostrowski to turn it into a 7-0 ballgame.
On the brink of a run-rule victory, VU welcomed a pair of leadoff walks in the sixth before Franz left the park for the second time that day with a three-run tank. After two outs, White went yard as well before Morra and Madison Ostrowski each doubled to put the 'Cats ahead 12-3.
The Hoyas took advantage of a trio of Wildcat errors in the sixth to plate three runs, but Runco worked around a bases loaded situation to ensure a 12-3 six-inning victory.
UP NEXT: The series finale comes on Sunday at the Washington Nationals Youth Academy, with first pitch set for 12:00 p.m. in the nation's capital.
