STANFORD, Cali – Villanova women's lacrosse travels to California for spring break and lost a tough battle of 13-14 to #8 Stanford.
The Wildcats had 16 draw controls, nine from
Emma Verhoest,
Cate Gallagher had nine saves,
Elena Torres and
Leslie Iorio both had four goals,
Jillian Vaught and
Ashlyn Hickey both had two assists.
Rose Christie scores the first goal of the game with Hickey following shortly behind. Torres then scores back-to-back goal bring the score to 4-3. Stanford then went on a 4 goal run to end the first quarter 4-7.
To start the second quarter, Vaught finds Iorlio for her first goal of the game. Torres then scores her third goal of the game, giving her a hat trick. To make the score 7-8 at the end of the first half, Iorio scored a free position goal.
Starting the momentum in the second half is Iorio earning a hat trick to tie things up.
Sydney Pappas puts the 'Cats in the lead 9-8 as she nets a pass from
Sami Carey. Pappas grabs a pass from Carey and finds the back of the net. Hickey then finds
Bella Piselli who scores her first of the game, putting the Wildcats up 11-9 with a quarter to go.
In the fourth quarter, Iorio grabbed her fourth goal of the game, with Torres tying the game up shortly after at 13-13. Unfortunately, Stanford scores with a couple minutes left and help off the 'Cats ending the game 13-14.
Villanova will be back in action on Monday, as they take on UC Davis.
