VILLANOVA,PA – Villanova women's lacrosse loses a close fight to No.16 Navy ,16-17,on Saturday evening.
Sophomore
Elena Torres leads the 'Cats with four goals and six total points in today's game. Senior
Sydney Pappas and Sophomore
Bella Piselli both had three goals.
Leslie Iorio and
Jillian Vaught scored two goals each while
Sami Carey and
Madison Freeman each had a goal.
Emma Verhoest dominated the draw controls, winning 16 of the teams total 24 and tying her own program record.
The Wildcats scored four goals in the first quarter. Torres started the momentum with the first goal of the game. Navy then answered with two back to back goals. Freshman Freeman tied it back up. Iorio grabs a pass from Pappas and hits the back of the net. With under a minute to go, Vaught also finds the back of the net. Navy Scores with two seconds left, ending the quarter 4-4.
Navy has a quick goal at the start of the second quarter, although Piselli answered with back to back goals. Pappas is the next to score for the Wildcats, catching a pass from Carey. Pappas works the ball to Torres who scores her second goal in the game. Iorio finds the back of the net again sending the Wildcats into the half at 9-11 following Navy.
Navy starts the second half with two quick goals but Carey was the first 'Cat to score. Piselli then grabs her third of the game, giving her a hat trick. Torres gets a free position, but she quickly passes it to Pappas who finds the back of the net. Vaught rips one to the back of the net putting Villanova at 13 and Navy at 15 going into the fourth quarter.
The last quarter of the game only had five goals, three from Villanova. Pappas had another goal with the help of Torres who then goes on to score two goals putting the Wildcats right behind the Midshipmen.
The 'Cats are back in action in the Villanova Stadium on Wednesday as they host Stony Brook.
