UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.—Sophomore distance runners
CJ Sullivan (Milton, Mass) and
Nick Sullivan (Middletown, N.J.) recorded personal best times in the 3000 meters as Villanova closed out two days of competition at the Penn State National Open on Saturday afternoon. The pair of second year runners tallied times of 8:05.85 and 8:14.37, respectively, at Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track.
CJ was the runner-up out of 29 runners in the invitational section of the 3000 meters. His time is the sixth-fastest in the BIG EAST this season and lowers the previous PR he had recorded at the Villanova Invitational just over a year ago. Nick lowered his personal best time by more than 17 seconds in Saturday's race and now has the 10
th-fastest mark in the BIG EAST for the year. That conference performance list features five Wildcats among the top 10 times.
Also in action on Saturday were sprinters
Parker Turner (Los Angeles, Calif.) and
Amiri Prescod (Chaguanas, Trinidad and Tobago) who posted times of 22.03 and 22.64, respectively, in the 200 meters. They had each run in the 60 meter dash on Friday afternoon before coming back on Saturday for their second event of the weekend. Turner won his heat and finished in ninth place overall out of 26 competitors.
Villanova closed out the afternoon with a fourth place finish and season best time of 3:15.33 in the 4x400 meter relay.
In the only field event on Saturday's schedule, senior thrower
Tristan Bolinsky (Gordon, Pa.) led a trio of Villanova athletes with a mark of 16.03 meters in the shot put. Freshman
Chris Coulter (Philadelphia, Pa.) improved his mark for the third consecutive week and posted a season best distance of 13.90 meters, while junior
Liam Anderson (Lebanon, N.J.) measured a mark of 12.67 meters.
Next weekend will see the Wildcats compete at both the Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White Classic in Boston and the Penn Classic locally at The Ott Center in Philadelphia.
