MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Villanova volleyball's third straight appearance at the BIG EAST Tournament came to a close in Saturday afternoon's semifinals following a sweep loss (17-25, 19-25, 18-25) to the Xavier Musketeers at the Al McGuire Center.

Taylor Lewis was named to the All-Tournament Team after leading the way with 11 kills on .375 hitting for Villanova (20-8) while Cat Young added seven each of kills and digs.

Ava Mehrten and Reagan McGivern each contributed three blocks to tie for a Wildcat best as Alyssa Nelson totaled a team-high 17 assists in addition to seven digs.

Xavier established an 11-5 edge in the first with an 8-0 run in part thanks to four straight VU attack errors. Villanova brought it back within one using a 4-0 stretch, but the Musketeers returned the favor then finished the frame as a 25-17 victory.

The Wildcats were the aggressors to open the second with five in a row getting the 'Cats up 12-6 and prompting a break from X. Xavier strung some points together to erase the gap and tie the score at 17-all, then grabbed a 21-18 edge and continued to a 25-19 win.

Set three saw the Musketeers in front by five at the media timeout and expanding to lead by as many as eight, later completing the sweep with a 25-18 third frame.

UP NEXT: Villanova now awaits its fate for an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, the field for which will be unveiled during the ESPN Selection Show at 6:00 p.m. Eastern on Sunday, Nov. 30.
