Box Score Teaneck, N.J. - In women's basketball exhibition play on Thursday evening, the Villanova Wildcats traveled to Teaneck, New Jersey, where they registered a 57-37 win over the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights.
FDU scored six straight points on back-to-back three-point field goals to cut the Villanova lead to 12-8, before the Wildcats scored the final six points of the quarter to lead 18-8 after one. The six points came on lay-ups from
Brynn McCurry,
Kennedy Henry and
Jasmine Bascoe.
Defense was the theme of the second quarter for Villanova, as the Wildcats held the Knights to just five points in the second stanza on 1-of-14 shooting.
Leading 20-8 with 4:30 to play until halftime, Villanova scored 10 of the final 15 points of the half to lead 30-13 at intermission. Bascoe scored the final five points of the quarter on a three from straight away and a runner in the lane as the buzzer sounded.
After FDU scored seven points to cut the Villanova advantage to 41-27 with 4:02 to play in the third quarter, Villanova responded by scoring the final six points of the period to lead 47-27 after three. Sophomore forward
Rachel Wirts tallied the final four points of the quarter on back-to-back baskets in the paint.
FDU would not get within 18 in the fourth quarter and Villanova would cruise to the victory.
In the win, Carter and McCurry led the way with 10 points. Carter and Wirts pulled-down a team-high six rebounds.
FDU was paced by Kailee McDonald who had a game-high 14 points.
Villanova was 25-of-60 from the field (41.7%) and 7-of-23 from three-point range (30.4%). The Knights shot 25.0 percent from the floor (14-of-56), 13.0 percent from long distance (3-of-23) and 100.0 percent from the charity stripe (6-of-6). The Wildcats did not attempt a free throw in the game.
Villanova will open the 2025-26 regular season on Monday, Nov. 3, with a home game versus the Lafayette Leopards. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
