Wildcats Defeated by the Dukes

HARRISONBURG, Va - Villanova women's swimming and diving team lost in a close match with James Madison. The 'Cats and the Duke went neck and neck until the last race of the day. The Dukes were able to finish first, ending the day with a score of 153-147 to beat the Wildcats. 
 
The Wildcats started strong with a first place finish (1:44.88) in the 200 medley relay with efforts from Alana Leen, Winnie Jalet, Anna Farley and Lainey Quinones.
 
Peri Gaguzis came out on top in the 1000 free with her time of 10:24.04. Marlene Blanke finished third touching the wall at 10:32.46. 
 
The Wildcats were able to secure second and third in both the 200 free and 100 breast. Riley Kudlac touched in at second in the 200 free with a time of 1:52.15, with Martina Lonati close behind at 1:54.18. Winnie Jalet grabbed second in the 100 breast with her time of 1:06.16, followed by Annie Honkamp with her time of 1:06.36. 
 
Leen was also able to place first in the 200 back swimming 2:01.90 and 100 back with her time of 57.22.
 
Alyssa McHale followed behind Leen in the 100 back and touched in at 59.37 giving her third place. She was then able to grab second place in the 100 fly swimming 57.70 , closely behind Arabella Lee who took first with her time of 57.10. 
 
First place in the 200 breast goes to Honkamp who swam 2:21.39 to help her achieve this, Jalet followed behind in third place with a time of 2:23.07. 
 
Honkamp swam 2:08.47 in the 200 IM placing her in second with Jalet taking third touch in at 2:10.04. 
 
Alexa Fegley represented the Wildcats on the diving platform. She scored a 272.33 giving her third place and a new personal best.
 
Third place in the 50 free was earned by Lexi Elkovitch touching the wall at 24.17. 
 
In addition to her effort in the 200 medley relay, Farley finished first in the 200 fly  swimming 2:03.86, with Meghan Tiernan grabbing second with her time of 2:04.62. Farley also finished third in the 100 free touching in at 52.51. 
 
Tiernan also took third place in the 500 free with her time of 5:06.06, in second place Is Arabella Lee with her time of 5:04.09. 
 
Wrapping up the day was the 400 free relay. Team B of Carlota Colomer, Lonati, Leen and Sasha Schratwieser managed to place second with their time of 3:31.20. While team A placed third  with efforts from McHale, Amylia Higgins, Quinones and Elkovitch. 
 
The team will be back in the pool Saturday as Richmond hosts them.
