PHILADELPHIA, Pa.—Freshman sprinter
Ethan Walls (Ridgefield, Conn.) broke 50 seconds and led a quartet of Villanova runners in the 400 meters at the Penn Challenge on Saturday afternoon. The meet was one of two for the Wildcats this weekend, as members of the team also traveled to the Knights Invite in Orlando over the past two days.
The trio of Walls, sophomore
Ronan O'Neill (Wilmette, Ill.) and freshman
Matthew Griffin (Whippany, N.J.) placed fourth, fifth and seventh in the 400 meters. Walls recorded a time of 49.95 and was followed closely by O'Neill with a time of 50.14. Griffin finished in seventh place (50.63) and senior
William Seijas (Shrewsbury, N.J.) crossed the finish line in 50.96.
In the other sprint events, freshman
Derrick Smith (New Orleans, La.) posted times of 11.09 in the 100 meters and 22.76 in the 200 meters. Junior
Connor Dunning (Nashua, N.H.) came in sixth in the 200 meters in 22.23 and sophomore
Sal Barretta (Whitestone, N.Y.) recorded a time of 56.78 to place sixth in the 400 meter hurdles.
Senior
Chris Weeks (Virginia Beach, Va.) ran the 800 meters in 2:02.29 and the Wildcats rounded out the track events by posting a time of 3:19.40 in the 4x400 meter relay.
The duo of sophomore
Liam Anderson (Lebanon, N.J.) and freshman
Jonathan Evans (Springfield, Va.) competed in the throwing events. Anderson threw for a distance of 11.99 meters in the shot put and Evans had a mark of 28.60 meters in the discus.
