Sean Donoghue Runs Second Straight Sub-Four Mile at Windy City Invite

Villanova had three middle distance runners in competition on Friday night in Chicago

CHICAGO, Ill.—Junior middle distance runner Sean Donoghue (Dublin, Ireland) recorded a personal best time of 3:58.07 in the mile at the Windy City Invite on Friday evening. It is the second straight race that Donoghue has posted a sub-four time. Junior Devon Comber (Ambler, Pa.) and fifth year runner Sean Dolan (Ewing, N.J.) were also in action for Villanova on Friday at Dr. Conrad Worrill Track and Field Center, the venue which will host the BIG EAST Championships in two weeks.

Donoghue and Comber closed out the night by running in The Magnificent Mile Invite which saw the top five finishers from a field of a dozen runners all go under four minutes. After joining the Wildcats sub-four minute club with a time of 3:58.86 at Penn State last month, Donoghue lowered his lifetime PR by nearly eight-tenths of a second with Friday's race. There was additional significance to Donoghue's time on Friday, as it puts him into 10th place on the program's all-time indoor performance list in the mile.

Villanova has five current athletes on its indoor top-10 list in the mile. Donoghue and Comber placed third and eighth, respectively, in Friday's race. Comber recorded a season best time of 4:02.10.

Earlier in the evening, Dolan posted a time of 1:46.99 in the invitational section of the 800 meters. The mark was just three-hundredths of a second away from matching Dolan's indoor school record of 1:46.96 which he set at Penn State earlier this season. Dolan is the Wildcats only athlete to break 1:47 in the 800 meters during indoor competition. He owns six of the program's 10 fastest indoor times in the 800 meters, including twice breaking Villanova's indoor mark in the event. Dolan currently ranks second in the BIG EAST and sixth nationally in the 800 meters this season.

One race remains for the Wildcats in Chicago and it takes place on Saturday afternoon when sophomore Marco Langon (Raritan, N.J.) and fifth year runner Xian Shively (Glenview, Calif.) compete in the invitational section of the 3000 meters.
