Sub-Four Minute Miles and Second-Fastest Time in School History in 60 Meters Highlight Men's Results at Villanova Invitational

Marco Langon set a facility collegiate record with a time of 3:57.88 in the mile at Ocean Breeze Track & Field Athletic Complex

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.—Sophomore distance runner Marco Langon (Raritan, N.J.) and sixth year veteran Evan Addison (Collegeville, Pa.) each ran sub-four minute miles to highlight a strong night at the Villanova Invitational on Saturday. Langon set a facility collegiate record of 3:57.88 at Ocean Breeze Track & Field Athletic Complex in the team's annual home meet and Addison became the 46th member of Villanova's elite club of sub-four minute milers with a lifetime best performance of 3:59.57.

There were several top performances for the Wildcats, including sophomore sprinter Amiri Prescod (Chaguanas, Trinidad and Tobago) matching the second-fastest time in school history in the 60 meters with a mark of 6.82 in Saturday night's final. Prescod was the runner-up in the event, while the trio of Langon, senior sprinter Jakob Kunzer (George Town, Grand Cayman) and fifth year runner Sean Dolan (Ewing, N.J.) were all event winners. Kunzer won the 500 meters in 1:03.80 and Dolan finished first in the 1000 meters with a time of 2:23.07.

Langon's time is the sixth-fastest in the nation this season and he surges into ninth place on Villanova's all-time indoor performance list in the mile. He had previously run a sub-four mile outdoors as an unattached entry in last year's Widener Invitational when he posted a time of 3:58.82. He lowered that time by nearly a full second on Saturday night in a race that produced the first three sub-four mile times in what is now the eight-year history of the Villanova Invitational. Langon, Nicholas Bendtsen of Princeton (3:59.22) and Addison each came in under four minutes.

It was a big moment for Addison to officially become a part of the Wildcats history of sub-four minute milers. He had come tantalizingly close before, including a time of 4:00.08 at Widener in the spring and a previous indoor personal best of 4:03.46 from the 2021 indoor season during his undergraduate career at Pittsburgh. Addison is out of indoor eligibility and was running unattached on Saturday night, but competed a full year for Villanova in 2022-23 and has outdoor eligibility remaining for the upcoming 2024 campaign. He is the 20th member of the program's sub-four club to be coached by Wildcats head coach Marcus O'Sullivan.

Prescod made an immediate impact as a freshman last season when he tied the fifth-fastest time in the 60 meters in the Villanova record book and finished sixth in the BIG EAST final. He matched his top time from last year in the preliminaries on Saturday night – his first race of the season – and lowered it to 6.82 while finishing second in the final. He joins former Wildcats Kevin Okolie (2008) and Troy Gallen (2019) who each ran 6.82 during their careers; the school record of 6.65 has been held by Salaam Gariba since 1992.

Saturday was the first full team meet of the season for Villanova, which had more than 20 athletes in competition. Next up for the team is the Penn State National Open this coming Friday and Saturday (January 26-27) in University Park, Pa.
