A three-goal surge late in the first half helped lift Georgetown (2-3 overall, 1-0 BIG EAST) to a 19-11 victory over Villanova Friday afternoon in Washington, D.C.

Libby McKenna scored five goals for the Wildcats (2-5 overall, 0-1 BIG EAST), while
Haley Driscoll added a pair of goals.

Villanova gained the early advantage with a back-to-back goals from McKenna in the first 5:33 of action. The goals were the junior's 15
th and 16
th of the season.

Georgetown dug its way out of the early hole to take a 3-2 lead with 13:05 to play in the first half. However, McKenna fed
Brittany Bruno forher  ninth goal of 2021 at the 12:51 mark to deadlock the game at three.

The Hoyas moved in front on consecutive goals, but the Wildcats quickly responded, getting goals from
Haley Driscoll and McKenna to even things up at five. However, Georgetown netted the last three goals of the half to take an 8-5 advantage into the intermission period at Cooper Field.

Georgetown carried the momentum into the second half, scoring the first three goals of the period to push their lead to 11-5. Kyle Hazen's fourth goal of the day for the Hoyas at 27:25 made it a seven goal advantage.

The Wildcats scored the next two, with
Olivia Piccirilli scoring one and assisting on the other (credited to
Caroline Curnal). Following a Georgetown goal, McKenna netted another goal to close the margin to 13-8 with 22:06 to play.

A Driscoll goal with 6:43 to play drew the Wildcats to within 16-11 but the Hoyas got another from Hazem at 4:12 to make it 17-11 in favor of the Hoyas. They added two more before the final horn sounded to make the final 19-11.

These two teams will meet again Sunday at 1:00 on the Hoyas home field.
