Williamson Ties Own School Record and Lifetime Best in 60 Meters at NYRR Millrose Games

Villanova senior now owns the 16 fastest times in school history in the 60 meters

NEW YORK—Senior sprinter Trudy-Ann Williamson (Kingston, Jamaica) equaled her own school record and lifetime best mark of 7.37 in the 60 meter dash while competing at the 113th NYRR Millrose Games at The Armory on Saturday afternoon.  Williamson was the lone collegiate entry in the field of eight runners at the world's longest running and most prestigious indoor track & field meet.  The women's 60 meters was run during the meet's live TV window and aired nationally on NBC.

The field of eight athletes in the race included six-time Olympic gold medalist Allyson Felix representing the United States and World U20 gold medalist Briana Williams from Jamaica, as well as former collegiate national champion Hannah Cunliffe and All-Americans Javianne Oliver and Morolake Akinosun.  Williamson more than held her own in the elite field, as she was the fastest of the eight athletes getting out of the starting blocks.

Running in lane eight, Williamson surged down the straightaway to match her PR and the school record of 7.37 which she originally set in the final at the indoor BIG EAST Championships on February 24, 2018 at Ocean Breeze Track & Field Athletic Complex in Staten Island.  Williamson now owns the 16 fastest times in the Villanova record book in the 60 meters, three of which have been recorded this season.  Her previous season-best time was 7.39 in the final at the Dr. Sander Invitational/Columbia Challenge at The Armory last month.

As of the end of competition at meets around the country over the weekend, Williamson leads the BIG EAST and is tied for 37th nationally in the 60 meters.  The five-time BIG EAST champion and seven-time All-BIG EAST performer is also ranked second in the conference in the 200 meters with a season-best time of 24.39.  The conference championships will be held on March 1-2 at SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

Next up for the Wildcats is a pair of meets this coming weekend.  Villanova well send groups of athletes to both the FastTrack National Invitational at Ocean Breeze and to the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston.
