STANFORD, Calif.—Graduate transfer student
Caroline Alcorta (Springfield, Va.) continued her strong year in a Villanova uniform on Friday night at the Stanford Invitational when she ran the second-fastest time in school history in the 10000 meters. Alcorta registered a personal best time of 32:53.26 at Cobb Track and Angell Field, placing 18
th overall in a race that included both collegiate and top professional runners.
The only faster time than Alcorta's in Wildcats history is the school record of 32:22.96 set by Carole Zajac on April 23, 1992 at the Penn Relays. Zajac owns five of the top 10 overall times on the program performance list, while she and Alcorta are now the only two Villanova runners to break 33 minutes in the 10000 meters.
Alcorta was a second team All-American in the 10000 meters while running for North Carolina last year. She finished third in the event at the NCAA East Preliminary meet, then went on to come in 14
th at the NCAA Championships with a then-personal best time of 33:49.81. Alcorta lowered that time by nearly a full minute in Friday's race, posting a mark which would have been good for seventh at last year's national meet.
Since coming to the Wildcats at the start of the 2018-19 academic year, Alcorta has picked up where she left off last season. She was the BIG EAST individual champion and a Mid-Atlantic All-Region performer in cross country in the fall, then garnered All-BIG EAST accolades in both the 3000 meters and the 5000 meters during the indoor track & field campaign.
