STANFORD, Calif.—A quartet of men's distance runners put up fast times at the Stanford Invitational on Friday night, including junior Andrew Marston (Wayne, Pa.) recording the ninth-fastest time in school history in the 10000 meters.  Also running for Villanova in the meet at Cobb Track and Angell Field were junior Logan Wetzel (Saline, Mich.) and the sophomore duo of Martin Barr (Skokie, Ill.) and Nick Steele (Harvard, Mass.). 
 
Marston raced in the last event of the night on the track, as his section of the 10000 meters got underway around 11 p.m. local time.  He recorded a personal best time of 29:21.46, crossing the finish line more than four seconds faster than his previous top time of 29:26.05 recorded a year earlier at the Raleigh Relays.  That time had ranked ninth in the Wildcats record book until Friday night's race.  With his first race of the outdoor season, Marston put himself in excellent position for a return trip to the NCAA East Preliminary meet later in the year. 
 
Villanova's first event on Friday was the 3000 meter steeplechase, in which Steele came in ninth in his section with a time of 9:04.28.  The defending BIG EAST champion in the steeplechase was a qualifier for the East regional meet a year ago. 
 
Wetzel registered a personal best time of 3:44.73 and placed third in his section of the 1500 meters.  He beat the time of 3:45.11 which he had run at the Larry Ellis Invitational as a redshirt freshman two years ago.  Barr had a personal best performance in the 5000 meters.  His time of 14:01.63 is tops in the BIG EAST for the young season and betters the time of 14:04.14 which Barr ran indoors at the Iowa State Classic in 2018.
