April 8, 2017 PRINCETON, N.J. - Six athletes were in competition for Villanova at the Sam Howell Invitational on Friday night, as the Wildcats kicked off a busy weekend of competition. Three races were on the schedule for the team at Weaver Stadium, with Villanova running in the 800 meters, the 1500 meters and the 5000 meters.
Redshirt freshman distance runner Casey Comber (Maple Glen, Pa.) was the runner-up out of 59 competitors in the 5000 meters. He posted a time of 14:40.26 despite the cold and windy conditions, and finished behind only an unattached runner who took the win in 14:37.81.
In the invitational section of the 1500 meters, redshirt freshman Paul Power (Phoenixville, Pa.) led four Wildcats with a 14th place finish and a time of 4:02.88. Sophomore Grant Wiggins (Virginia Beach, Va.) followed with a time of 4:05.04, while redshirt freshmen Louis Vazquez (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Lucas Arrivo (Ann Arbor, Mich.) crossed the finish line in 4:12.21 and 4:17.17, respectively.
Senior Tyler Rippel (Lake Zurich, Ill.) ran the invitational section of the 800 meters and finished with a time of 2:00.48 to place 29th out of 45 runners.
Villanova has athletes in competition this weekend at both the Sam Howell meet at Princeton and the Hurricane Alumni Invitational in Miami.
