Villanova, Pa. -

The Villanova women's soccer team finished the season on a high note and registered a 2-0 win over Seton Hall on Friday afternoon at the Higgins Soccer Complex. Junior Sam DePinho and senior Katie Martin tallied goals for the Wildcats as they earned their second win in BIG EAST play to conclude the 2016 season.

The Wildcats finished the year 4-14 overall and 2-7 in the BIG EAST play. While Seton Hall fell to 5-11-1 and 1-8 in conference play with the loss.

The Wildcat struck back to back goals in the first half. Kristin Barbour was able to get the ball from the right side of the box into the center where DePinho placed her shot to the lower left corner of the goal out of the reach of the Pirates goalie. This put Villanova up 1-0 in the 32nd minute.

It was just over four minutes later that senior Katie Martin scored an insurance goal during her senior day game on a pass from Jessie Himel. Himel passed the ball up the field to Martin who crossed the ball into the lower left corner of the net.

The results marking the fourth win for the Wildcats this year as they wrapped up the 2016 season. Despite the victory, the field has been set for the BIG EAST Tournament set to begin next week at campus sites. Both Villanova and Seton Hall did not qualify for postseason championship.

The Wildcats held the advantage in shots 16-13 and took four corner to the Pirates three. Emmalee Meyer played strong in the net and posted five saves and recorded her ninth career shutout.

Today's contest marked the final game for Villanova's three graduating members of the Class of 2017: Callie Duliba, Katie Martin, and Emmalee Meyer will graduate from Villanova this spring and helped lead the Wildcats to two BIG EAST Tournament appearances.

"All season long, our staff has been so proud of the resiliency of our team. In our final game today, we saw a fantastic culmination and celebration of our season, as we finished our early chances. To get the win today was special for our entire program moving forward, but especially for our senior class, on senior day," stated head coach Fran Kulas.

He added, "We are so proud of Katie Martin, Callie Duliba, and Emma Meyer, and for us to be able to close their careers with a win, and for them to contribute in such a big way in the win, is special for our program moving forward. Our three seniors have been extraordinarily influential leaders this year and have laid the foundation for our program as we move forward, and today was a great day for our program all around."
