Villanova, Pa. -

Villanova women's soccer (3-8, 1-1 BIG EAST) defeated the Creighton Bluejays (6-3-2, 1-2 BIG EAST) by a final of 3-1 on Sunday afternoon.

Head coach Fran Kulas stated, "Today was a total team effort and our staff is really happy for and proud of our team for both how they played, and getting an important three points at home in Big East play. We had twenty players contribute to the win today on the field, and seven others on the sidelines who played a part in our success today."

The Wildcats got on the board first in the 21st minute. Conner Huggins sent the ball high into the box where Ida DiClemente was able to get a header. The header was swatted by Creighton goalkeeper McKenzie Meola but Sam DePinho was able to get a shot off the rebound and score. This was DePinho's first goal as a Wildcats.

It was only seven minutes later that Kristin Barbour was able to get a shot from 30 yards out to bend out of the reach of Meola. Both Katie Martin and DiClemente assisted the goal. Villanova led 2-0 at the end of the first half.

The Bluejays got on the board just minutes into the second half. Lauren Sullivan was able to pick off a Villanova pass and go one on one with Emily Harris. Harris dove for the ball but Sullivan was able to get the ball behind Harris and in for Creighton's first goal of the game.

Villanova didn't let Creighton be within one for too long. Just over two minutes later Barbour was able to get a free kick to fall into the back of the net and give the Wildcats a 3-1 lead.
Harris finished with five saves while Barbour had a team high three shots.

Overall Villanova out shot Creighton 14 to 12 and took six corners to their two.

"It was fantastic to see the team implement so much of what we had trained for this week, into today's match. I think what our staff is most proud of, is how strong we came out, scoring two goals within a 7 minute span in the first half, and then our response to conceding a goal in the 58th minute, and striking again less than three minutes later to re-establish a two-goal lead," added Kulas.

The Wildcats will stay home and host Providence on Thursday, October 6th. Game time is set for 4:00 PM.
