The Villanova women's soccer team fell to the No. 7-ranked Georgetown Hoyas 5-1 on Wednesday afternoon in Washington, D.C. With the loss, Villanova falls to 3-11 overall at 1-4 in BIG EAST play while the Hoyas improve to 11-1-2 and 3-0-2 in conference play.
Georgetown began the game on fast footing and carried a 4-0 lead into halftime. Caitlin Farrell scored the Hoyas first goal in the 10th minute followed by a goal by Grace Damaska six minutes later. The final two Georgetown goals of the first half were by Rachel Corboz and Crystal Thomas.
Coming out of intermission, the Wildcats put a stop to the Hoyas offense. Both Alizah Johns-Boehme and Sam DePinho took shots on goal early in the second half for the Wildcats.
Ida DiClemente got Villanova on the board in the 75th minute on a pass from Kristin Barbour. DiClemente's shot was from 18 yards out and hit the far post and was able to fall in out of the reach of the Hoya goalie. With the goal the Wildcats snap a six game streak in which Georgetown has not allowed an opponent goal.
The Hoyas got on the board once in the second half in the 79th minute on a success penalty kick by Thomas to make the final 5-1.
Emily Harris played the first 45 minutes in goal for the Wildcats and had one save. Senior Emmalee Meyer came in for the second half and had four saves on the day. Overall the Wildcats took six shots placing five on goal.
Next Villanova will travel to Xavier for a game Saturday. Kickoff is set for 12:00 P.M. and will be aired on the BEDN.
