VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova volleyball team earned another win in the Villanova Classic as the Wildcats defeated Howard 25-15, 27-25, 25-18 Saturday afternoon in the Jake Nevin Field House.

The Wildcats (6-3, 0-0 BIG EAST) were led by a 15 kill, 10 dig double-double from Allie Loitz (Bonita, Calif./Bonita Vista) and 10 kills from Claire Crutchfield (Falls Church, Va./Bishop O'Connell).

Brittany Rembert (Orlando, Fla./Bishop Moore Catholic) got the start at middle blocker and recorded nine kills in the win.

Allison Fitzgerald (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) led the team defensively with 11 digs while Emma Pettit (Ft. Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge) and Ashley Knight (Omaha, Neb./Elkhorn South High) combined for 42 assists.

Howard (2-9 overall) was led by Khaila Donaldson with 11 kills and nine digs.

Loitz came out of the gates hot as she tallied seven of her 15 kills in the first set. The Wildcats used a 5-0 run to gain a 22-13 advantage and all but put an end to the frame.

Villanova claimed the second set 27-25 but led only twice leading up to the 25-25 tie. Howard held a 22-18 advantage late in the second set before two Bison errors brought the 'Cats within two.

The Bison had set point at 24-22 but a pair of clutch kills from Loitz notted the set at 24-24. Amanda Pedersen-Henry (Murrieta, Calif./Vista Murrieta High) and Loitz gave the Wildcats their final two kills and the set win.

Villanvoa trailed early in the second set and took their first lead at 11-10. The Wildcats put together an 11-3 run to take a 19-13 lead. Villanvoa held on to win the set 25-18.

The Villanova volleyball team is back in action tonight as they take on James Madison at 7:30pm in the Jake Nevin Field House.
