Oct. 24, 2015 Junior Josh Lampron (Mansfield, Mass.) and sophomore Zach Swenson (Boulder, Colo.) each registered personal best times on the four-mile Alumni Course during competition in the Haverford Invitational early Friday evening. Villanova was also represented at the local meet by a number of unattached runners who are redshirting the season.
Lampron came in 11th overall in a field of 54 runners and posted a time of 20:46.6, while Swenson placed 13th and recorded a time of 20:53.1. Lampron notched his fastest time in six career races at Haverford and beat his old mark by more than four seconds. Swenson cut nearly 19 seconds off the time that he posted in the Main Line Invitational earlier this season.
There were eight unattached Wildcats runners in the race and the duo of freshmen Casey Comber (Maple Glen, Pa.) and Andrew Marston (Wayne, Pa.) tallied a 1-2 overall finish. Comber registered a winning time of 19:51.8 and finished just a step in front of Marston, who had a time of 19:52.0. Fellow freshman Louie Vazquez (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Griffin Tichenor (Unionville, Ind.) came in sixth (20:22.9) and seventh (20:24.6), respectively, and Paul Power (Phoenixville, Pa.) was ninth (20:29.3).
Freshman Lucas Arrivo (Ann Arbor, Mich.) came in 20th with a time of 21:10.6 and another first-year runner, Logan Wetzel (Saline, Mich.), placed 25th (21:27.9) in his first action of the season. Sophomore Kieran Brennan (Pearl River, N.Y.) also competed as an unattached runner and finished 44th with a time of 23:14.5.
Villanova is in the midst of preparations for the BIG EAST Championships, which take place next Saturday in Mason, Ohio.
