Final Stats
STORRS, Conn. - The Villanova women's lacrosse team (8-8, 3-4 BIG EAST) finished the 2014 campaign with a 15-4 loss to Connecticut (10-6, 5-2) Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore midfielder Chelsey Henderson recorded her 19th goal of the season at 14:22 off an assist from sophomore midfielder Tierney Griff.
Sophomore attack Kelsey Denihan tallied a goal off a free position with 6:42 left in the first. She added another one with an assist to sophomore midfielder Shannon Galvin with six seconds remaining in the half as the Huskies took a 9-3 lead into the break.
Freshman defender Mariah Salerno scored a free position goal at 10:21 in the second.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jaclyn Fraum started the game and played for 43:06, making eight saves and allowing 10 goals. Senior Julia Todd played 16:54 in goals and made two saves while allowing five goals.
UConn midfielder Kacey Pippitt scored six goals in the contest.
After totaling just three shots in the first half, all resulting in goals, the Wildcats took 11 shots in the second. UConn had 32 in the game. The Huskies held a 25-13 advantage in ground balls and an 11-9 advantage in draw controls.
The Wildcats finished the season with their best overall record since 2010 and the most BIG EAST wins in a season since joining the conference for women's lacrosse in 2010.
On the year, Denihan held the team lead in goals with 26. Sophomore attack Meghan Breen (25G, 9A) and Henderson (19G, 15A) finished tied for the team lead with 34 points. Junior attack Jessica Mucci notched 22 assists on the year.
