Final Stats
Fairfield, Conn. - The Wildcats (6-2, 1-1 CAA) dropped their first conference game Saturday to Sacred Heart (3-5, 1-1 CAA). Tied at seven at the end of regulation, Villanova fell after five overtimes 8-7.
Freshman CJ Small (San Diego, Calif.) put Villanova on the board with 9:51 remaining in the first quarter. The goal was Small's eighth of the season.
Down 3-1 with less than four minutes remaining in the first quarter, the Wildcats scored five straight goals. Junior Paul Webber (Manhasset, N.Y.) notched two as he continues to lead Villanova with 21 points.
Up 6-3 with less than four minutes to play in the third quarter, the Wildcats were unable to hold their lead. Villanova surrendered four straight goals and was down 7-6 with 12:15 to play in the game.
Senior Tim Driscoll (Montville, N.J.) scored with 22 seconds remaining sending the contest to overtime. Driscoll leads the team with 15 goals this season.
After five overtimes, the 7-7 tie was broken by Scared Heart for their first CAA win this season.
Bobby Rushton led the Pioneers with two goals while goalie Zach Frank had 27 saves in the win.
Villanova senior goalkeeper Andrew DiLoreto (Wilton, Conn.) recorded 10 saves in the contest bringing his season total to 68.
The Wildcats head on the road to South Bend, Ind. on Tuesday March 31st. They take on Notre Dame at 4 p.m.
