Wildcats Drop 12-5 Decision To CAA Opponent Drexel

April 11, 2007

Box Score

Philadelphia, Pa. - The Villanova men's lacrosse team suffered a scoring drought in the second half resulting in a 12-5 loss to Colonial Athletic Association opponent Drexel tonight at Vidas Field. The Wildcats slip to 5-5 overall and 1-2 in the CAA, while the Dragons improve to 9-3 overall and 3-0 in conference play.

The Wildcat offense struck first on a goal by senior Eric Heidenberger just two minutes into the game. After the Dragons retaliated to tie the game 1-1, Villanova jumped out to a 3-1 lead on a pair of goals by freshman Mark Scioscia. However, this was the last time the Wildcats would see any sort of lead. The Dragons' offense erupted to score six unanswered goals, diminishing their early deficit and extending their lead to 7-3. Senior Mike Haas halted the Drexel offensive by notching two goals right before the end of the first half.

With the two late first half goals, it seemed as though Villanova was on pace to produce a comeback. However, Drexel held Villanova scoreless for the entire second half despite the Wildcats out shooting the Dragons 39-26 for the entire game. Villanova also won 16 of 20 face-offs from the efforts of senior Chris Colliniates, and collected 34 ground balls as a team. Yet, the 'Cats came up short with Drexel goalie Bruce Bickford registering 16 saves through four periods of play.

Villanova looks to bounce back this weekend as they host CAA rival Delaware on Saturday, April 14 at 7 p.m. at Villanova Stadium.
