VILLANOVA, Pa. - Two senior members of the 2005 Villanova University football team have signed NFL free agent contracts. Wide receiver J.J. Outlaw signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, while defensive end Darrell Adams inked a contract with the New York Jets.
Outlaw earned All-Conference honors for the third time in his career and merited first team accolades for the second time in 2005. As the team's leading receiver this past season, Outlaw caught 83 passes for 878 yards and seven touchdowns. He led the Atlantic 10 Conference in receptions per game (7.5 per contest), ranked third in all-purpose yards per contest (122.4 yards per game) and fourth in receiving yards per game (79.8 yards per contest). Outlaw's father, John, was a member of the Eagles from 1973-78.
Adams was named first team All-Atlantic 10 for the third consecutive year in 2005. In 10 games last season, Adams tallied 40 total tackles (18 solo/ 22 assisted), 11.5 tackles for loss, one sack and two pass breakouts. He ended his four-year Wildcat career with 163 tackles, including 40 tackles for loss and 13 quarterback sacks.
Outlaw and Adams will give both the Eagles and Jets two former Villanova Wildcats on their respective rosters. Running back Brian Westbrook is in his fourth year with the Eagles, while running back Terry Butler is in his second year as a member of the New York Jets.
