TEANECK, NJ - The Fairleigh Dickinson University men's soccer team (2-0) shut out visiting Villanova University (1-1), 2-0, on goals from sophomore forward Yannick Rome Gosselin (St. Jean sur Richelieu) and freshman midfielder Alejandro Bedoya (Weston, FL) on Sunday evening at University Stadium in Teaneck, NJ.
Rome Gosselin opened up scoring in the 17th minute, putting the Knights on the board as senior midfielder Victor Giovanny Hurtado (Totawa, NJ) found him with a long pass down the center of the field.
Bedoya scored his second goal in as many games off another long pass, this one from senior midfielder Nadav Gottesman (Haifa, Israel). In the 62nd minute, Bedoya took the pass and went one-on-one with the goalkeeper, burying it from 15 yards out.
Junior Elvir Prasovic (Astoria, NY) played between the posts for the Knights, making five saves, all in the second half. The Wildcats had their best chance to score with 10 minutes remaining in the second half, rapidly firing three shots from a scramble in front of the net, but Prasovic was able to punch each away and finally clear out the area.
"I'm pleased with how we played," said Head Coach Seth Roland. "It isn't easy to play against a team that packs it in defensively. We know we're going to face that in more games this year, but I'm happy that we were able to come up with solutions so we can win. I think that overall it was a solid performance."
Villanova (1-1-0) sees its next action this Friday afternoon in Philadelphia against he University of Pennsylvania at 2:30 p.m.
