Colgate head coach, Dick Biddle:
...on the officials decision to call the game with 10:30 remaining in the fourth quarter...
"I agree with them. What's the sense. The weather is bad and the kids are in the locker room. I don't want to have Villanova beat us twice, but I don't want to get someone else hurt."
"They are obviously very good on offense and Westbrook is a very good (running) back. I don't think there is a better back in Division 1-AA football and when you play him on turf he is at an advantage."
...on Villanova running back, Brian Westbrook...
"I think he has good speed and is very hard to tackle. I think he is the best back in the country. We played against the kid from Georgia Southern (Adrian Peterson). In my estimation, Westbrook is better."
Villanova head coach, Andy Talley:
...on Westbrook...
"We saw him in preseason and I said to our coaches, 'He is going to another level.' It's just obvious. He was running past our people, running around them, knocking people down, the few times we let them go live. It was just an explosion waiting to happen, I thought. He just couldn't wait to get back on the field, chomping at the bit. He got the Hula Bowl invite and an opportunity to go, the pro (scouts) have been around. I think he just wants to let people know how good he really is."
"All in all I was really pleased with our defense. I hope it is a sign of things to come that we are better defensively. I actually think, that aside from Brian (Westbrook), our defense really outshined our offense today. Our defense really helped us win the game.
"We have been watching him (Westbrook) do the same things for a long time. I think what has happened is that we realize we have such a special player so it is neat and fun to just sit back and watch him. Everybody comes in prepared to stop him and he is going to take some extra hits. From a coaching stand point, you know you have something special and it's like, 'When is he going to explode?'"
Villanova running back, Brian Westbrook:
"I am proud of myself and my teammates. We have worked hard to get to this point. It has been a long camp. There was a lot of teamwork that went into it. I have to thank all the people on the kickoff return, definitely the offensive line because they opened some big holes today."
"It feels good to be 1-0."
"I am trying to get ready for the next level. Hopefully I will get the opportunity. I definitely want to take care of things first this season."
Villanova quarterback Brett Gordon:
"Offensively, other than a couple of Brian's big plays, I don't think our offense performed that well tonight. That last drive towards the end we started to get things going throwing the ball, running the ball and having a good balance. It's great to have a win like this and start the season 1-0. At the same time you have to keep the big picture in mind. As an offense we are looking past this game in the sense that we have to get our offense rolling. To stop it short like that is a little frustrating, but the bottom line is we won the game."
