At the 2001 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships held in Eugene, Oregon on the campus of the University of Oregon, senior Scott Tantino placed 12th in the 5,000 meter run. In his final race in a Wildcat uniform, Tantino crossed the line in 14:09.02.
The top four spots in the 5K race were separated by just two seconds. Junior Jonathon Riley of Stanford ran 13:42.51 to edge Pac 10 rival Bulota Asmeron of the University of California-Berkeley who was timed in 13:43.13. Alabama sophomore David Kimani was third in 13:44.42, while William & Mary's Matthew Lane crossed the line in 13:44.99 and finished fourth.
Villanova sophomore Adrian Blincoe will run in the finals of the 1,500 meter run to be held on Saturday, June 2. Blincoe is scheduled to run at 6:15 p.m. west coast time.
