This past weekend at Princeton University, the Villanova men's and women's track & field teams competed at the IC4A/ECAC meet. The men finished tied for ninth in the IC4A meet with 26 points, while the women earned a 22nd place finish in the ECAC meet with 14 points. Both the Georgetown men and women took home team championships. The Hoya men scored 77 points to edge George Mason with 76 points and the Georgetown women claimed team honors with 87 points.
Highlighting the meet for the Villanova men were the first place performances of junior Antoine Johnson in the 110 meter hurdles and freshman Jason Jabaut in the 1,500 meter run. Johnson, who was third in the event last year, was timed in 14.06 and narrowly defeated Rider's Justin Lindsey who was second in 14.08. Jabaut crossed the line in 3:49.31 just ahead of Georgetown's Adam Daniels who was second in 3:49.79 and Aaron Lanzel of the Naval Academy who placed third with a time of 3:49.87.
In the 400 meter hurdles, senior Mike Brown ran third with a clocking of 51.07. Kurt Duncan of George Mason won the race in 51.07.
For the Villanova women, junior thrower Melinda Boykin led the way, as she competed in three different events. Boykin's best performance of the weekend came in the shot put where she tallied a third place effort with a throw of 14.81m. She was also very competitive in the hammer, placing fourth with a mark of 53.48m. In the discus, she was 23rd with a throw of 39.34m. Sophomore Christine Heffernan was 16th in the discus (41.60m) and 21st in the javelin (36.84m).
Two Wildcat distance runners scored points for Villanova, including sophomore Liz Awtrey who was third in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in 10:26.32 and senior Ann McGranahan who crossed the line in sixth position in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 16:36.44.
