Wildcats Down Penn to Win Big Five Title

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Jermaine Medley scored 22 points, including five of six 3-point shots, and Gary Buchanan broke the NCAA Division I record for consecutive free throws as Villanova defeated Penn 80-51 Tuesday night.

Buchanan, a sophomore guard, hit two foul shots with 4:46 remaining giving him 65 in a row. On the season, Buchanan has converted 73 of 74 from the foul line.

Michael Bradley, whose 69.5 shooting percentage leads the nation, had 21 points and nine rebounds, converting 7 of 10 shots, for Villanova. Ricky Wright had 13 points and 13 rebounds for Villanova (13-8).

Lamar Plummer and Ugonna Onyekwe each had 12 points for Penn (7-12), which lost its fifth straight to its crosstown rival.

The Wildcats never trailed in the game and led by as many as 16 points in the first half. After a 3-point shot by David Klatsky brought Penn to within 53-37 with 15:17 to play, Villanova went on a 10-3 run. Villanova took a 63-40 advantage as the Quakers could only score one field goal in six minutes.

Leading 7-5, Villanova went on a 14-3 run, hitting on six consecutive shots, and took a 21-8 lead on a 3-point play by Bradley.

Villanova now holds a 32-16 edge in the all-time series.
