Oct. 25, 2000

PHILADELPHIA, PA.--- On Wednesday, Oct. 25, in the final game of the regular season for the Villanova women's soccer team, the Wildcats traveled across town to the University of Pennsylvania and emerged with a 3-0 shutout victory. The win was the eighth shut out victory of the season for the `Cats, who end the regular with an 11-8-0 overall record. The Quakers loss was their third straight, and drops their season mark to 7-6-1.

Despite being out shot 7-1 in the first half of play, Villanova was able to hold Penn scoreless heading into intermission due in large part to a strong defensive effort and two saves from Wildcat goalkeeper Janel Schillig.

Just 34 seconds into the second half, Villanova broke the scoreless tie as sophomore Julie Battista scored her third goal of the season off an assist from junior midfielder Jessica Painchaud. Less than four minutes later, the Wildcats extended their lead as Battista returned the favor by hitting Painchaud, who scored her third goal in the last four games.

At the 84:56 mark of the second half, Villanova put the game away. Freshman Candice MacDonald dished the ball to sophomore forward Quinn Sellers who scored her team-best eighth goal of the season to give the Wildcats the 3-0 victory.

Getting the win in goal for Villanova was Schillig, who saved four shots in goal. She finished the season with 83 saves and a team-high five and a half shutouts.

Taking the loss for the Quakers was Kathie Hunst, who saved three shots in the contest.
