VILLANOVA, PA.--- Hosting Georgetown University on Wednesday, Oct. 11, in a Big East Mid-Atlantic Division contest, the Villanova University women's soccer team defeated the Hoyas, 3-0, led by two goals from sophomore midfielder Kristin Dunst. The Wildcats, who posted their sixth shutout of the season in Wednesday's victory, improve to 8-7-0 overall on the season and 2-4-0 in Big East play. Georgetown falls to 7-6-2 overall and 2-2-1 in conference action with the loss.
The Villanova offense struck first just 12:16 into regulation, when junior forward Jessica Painchaud headed in a cross off a free kick by sophomore defender Jill DiBerardino. The goal was Painchaud's first of the season and gave the Wildcats an early 1-0 lead.
Still clinging to a 1-0 advantage in the 54th minute, Villanova added to its lead. Freshman midfielder Candice MacDonald fed Dunst with a cross to the outside, starting a Wildcat breakaway, which Dunst finished off with her fifth goal of the year to give Villanova a 2-0 lead.
At the 65:48 mark of the second half, the `Cats put the game away. Sophomore midfielder Jennifer Carrigan assisted on Dunst's second goal of the game and sixth of the season, as Villanova went on for the 3-0 victory.
Combining for the shutout in goal for the Wildcats were junior Janel Schillig and freshman Chrissy Dolan. Starting the game in net for Villanova, Schillig played the first 74 minutes of the contest and saved a game-high five shots. Dolan came in the game and played the final 16 minutes tallying three saves. Taking the loss in goal for Georgetown was Shereena Chang, who saved four shots.
The Wildcats remain at home, playing host to the University of Miami on Friday, Oct. 13, at 4:30 p.m.
