PITTSBURGH, PA.--- In Big East Mid-Atlantic Division play on Sunday, Oct. 1, at the Morton Sports Complex in Pittsburgh, Pa.., the Villanova University women's soccer team fell to the University of Pittsburgh, 1-0 in double overtime, on a goal by Kimberly Sturk with just 37 seconds remaining on the clock. The loss was the Wildcats' third straight and dropped their record to 6-6-0 overall and 0-3-0 in the Big East Conference. The Panthers win was their first in conference play (1-3), and improved their overall record to 4-9.
Pittsburgh took a 1-0 lead at 27:47, when forward Annette Agredano converted a corner kick from Leah Greenspoon. Villanova tied the game up with less than five minutes remaining in the first half, as midfielder Kristin Dunst took a shot from the far right side and connected with the left side of the net.
The Wildcats took their first lead of the contest, 2-1, in the second half when forward Quinn Sellers took a short handoff from teammate Janessa Jeltema and shot it from the left side out of the reach of Panther goalkeeper Rachel Brown, who had come out to challenge Jeltema's initial shot.
With just under three minutes remaining in regulation, Pittsburgh's Jacqueline Fix scored the tying goal when she lobbed a shot over the head of Villanova goalkeeper Janel Schillig.
In the second overtime, the Panthers' Emily Tipton set up the game-winning goal with a pass from the right side of the net. Sturk then beat out Schillig, finding the back of the net at the 119:23 mark to give Pittsburgh the win.
The shot total was tied at 22-22 for the contest. Brown saved a game-high eight shots to get the victory for the Panthers. Schillig had three saves in the loss for the Wildcats.
Villanova will get back into action on Wednesday, Oct. 4, hosting Rutgers at 4:00 p.m.
