Villanova Tames the Lions in Women's Soccer Action

On Wednesday, Sept. 22, in women's soccer action, the Villanova University women's soccer team traveled to Columbia University and came away with a 3-2 victory. With the win, the Wildcats' overall record improves to 6-2, while the Lions fall to 2-2.

In the first half, freshman Cary Morell started off the scoring for Villanova at the 7:34 mark, taking a pass from Julie Battista and beating Columbia goalkeeper Ali Ahern. At the 20:34 mark, the Lions tied the game on a goal by Kerry Morgin, assisted by Stephane Smith.

Just over 10 minutes later, sophomore forward Angela Scialdone scored for the Wildcats off an assist from senior forward Lauren Sellers to help Villanova claim a 2-1 lead. With only 3:37 remaining before intermission, Meredith Corlary netted the game-tying goal to send the game into the half, knotted at 2-2.

At the 72:22 mark of the second half, senior Kathy Minnich broke the deadlock for the Wildcats, scoring the game-winning goal off an assist from sophomore Dyane Noonan.

Getting the win in goal for Villanova was sophomore Janel Schillig, who saved a game-high three shots.

The 'Cats will get back into action on Friday, Sept. 24, hosting West Virginia University at 4:00 p.m.
