PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Following a seven day lay-off, the Villanova Wildcats returned to action Sunday evening to take on local rival Drexel at Franklin Field, on the campus on the University of Pennsylvania. After playing to a 1-1 tie in the first quarter, the Wildcats pulled ahead on goals by Tom Lasky, Andrew Bogle and Tom Houricane to give Nova a 4-2 lead at the half.
Drexel (3-2) came out of the break with two straight goals from Jeff Iannarino and Keith Cooke to tie the game at 4-4. Exchanging goals into the fourth quarter, the Dragons broke a 7-7 tie on Ed Boron's unassisted goal with 3:08 remaining. But the Wildcats weren't finished yet, junior Eric Dauer saved the best for last as he netted two of his three goals in the last 1:25 of the game, giving Villanova the 9-8 victory.
Dauer's three-goal performance led the Wildcats and John McTigue recorded three assists, while goalie Matt Wilk tallied 17 saves in the win. For the Dragon, Matt Winkler netted two goals and one assists and Keith Cooke tallied three points on one goal and two assists. Villanova (4-2) puts its three-game winning streak on the line against Bucknell as the ?Cats travel to Lewisburg, Pa. to take on the Bisons on Wednesday, March 31.
